Built in 1895 by parliamentarian, Sir Heaton Rhodes, Otahuna Lodge – with its romantic rooflines and elaborate architectural detail – is one of New Zealand’s most iconic Heritage-listed properties and is a member of Relais & Châteaux. Interiors retain traditional features, such as the original fireplaces, period furniture and stained-glass windows, whilst the divine suites offer views of the spectacular gardens or the Southern Alps, and, the magnificent Verandah Suite once hosted King George VI. The lodge houses a private collection of New Zealand art – thirty five pieces including works by Peter Beadle and Craig Primrose. During the autumn and winter, the lodge is a magnet for gourmets from around the globe, who come to sample the incredible flavours of the New World truffle, grown nearby at Brochii Park Truffière.
