Description

The beautifully rugged and remote Indonesian island of Suma, lies east of Bali and is a comfortable fifty minute flight away. Famous for its palm trees and surf, this pristine island has been the secret haunt for many a savvy surfer due it's extensive coastline, reef wall and dramatic waves. Exciting both above and below the ocean, the area offers prolific sport-fishing and is home to some incredible dive sites - such as Rock Slide, which is perfect for beginners, and the more advanced Morning Rock with its steep drop-off points and pinnacles. Quite in addition to the world-class ocean attractions, is the stunning natural beauty of the island interior, with a stunning valley, verdant paddy fields and isolated village settlements where guests can hike, horse-trek or explore the island via open-air Land Rover Safari and immerse themselves in daily Sumba life. With its fascinating and well-preserved ancient culture, visitors can marvel at the monumental megalithic burial sites, visit local markets and try local crafts, or simply indulge at the impressive spa facilities, enjoying the products made from natural, local ingredients.

Through one man's determined vision, the luxurious yet sustainable resort of Nihiwatu offers solitude and adventure in equal measure. Chris Burch has cleverly created a unique island concept, harnessing the natural wonders of Sumba, enriching the lives of the local people, through his admirable Foundation Projects, and offering guests a chance to step back in time. Whether you choose to surf the waves, experience the magnificent under-water marine life, try the art of free-diving, skim the shallows with the exhilarating horse tow, meet the resident horse-whisperer, or perhaps immerse yourself in wellness and culture - Nihiwatu provides a feast of exceptional activities in a location which is far from ordinary.
