As Lewis Carroll famously penned, "Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.” And yes, that saying rings true in the decor here at Malliouhana. Sure, it took me a while to get accustomed to the fanfare and whimsy all around, but I, enjoyed the shake-up to my senses immensely. I felt that this sort of fun, beach-holiday merited immersing myself in a little slice of fantasy which is how I would describe my time at Malliouhana. From decor fit for the set of Alice in Wonderland, to Hollywood flair of the 1920s and sprinkled with flashes of Louis XIV’s extravagant opulence, there is something for everyone’s imagination to run with here at the resort. And escape reality for a moment or two.
Lush nature all-around compliments the scene. The views from the pool area are reminiscent of Portofino with the turquoise sea and rocks below and Italian lounge music playing in the background. The gardens are glorious and beautifully manicured and again give way to a feeling of luxuriating in the Italian Riviera. Resplendent beaches abound.
Accommodation here at the resort is generous with a capital G. The rooms are all on the spacious side, from the ocean premium rooms, the lead-in room type, all the way up. This category is also the room of choice if you need a bathtub in your life. Primarily located in the main hotel building, many can be interconnected for family bookings. With the suites (both junior and two-bedded) overlooking Turtle Cove beach, the Junior suite is one of the biggest that I've ever seen for a single room space, while the two bedded suites are perfect for families or couples travelling together.
Meanwhile, the hotel has great plans for future development with a couple of multi-space villas which will be suitable for bigger family groups or those seeking more privacy.
Overall, this hotel is a cornucopia of pleasures in every sense of the word. It should be on every lover of the Caribbean’s bucket list. All you need to do is fall down the rabbit hole…..
