Al Qasr is the glitziest gem in the Madinat Jumeirah crown. Arabic for ‘the palace’, Al Qasr was designed to dazzle, Arabian style. Its public areas are blindingly gorgeous and showcase rare marble, intricate designs and patterns, multi-coloured hand woven carpets and some of the world's largest Swarovski crystal chandeliers. The striking interiors are coupled with enormous flower arrangements that look more like sculptures than bouquets.
Al Qasr was designed to ‘wow’. The hotel and particularly the rooms together make up the full, Arabian experience. So if minimalist surroundings and monochromatic tones are your thing, you will not be drawn to this locale. But if you shake your head too fast, you will sell yourself short as there is so much to offer here, almost all of it good, great and downright excellent. With its collection of superb restaurants and bars, ‘abra's’ floating by on the canals, shops, spas, sports and not to mention its enormous pool and the wonderful beach, this resort is hot stuff and not for the fainthearted.
And yes, it's always busy. So take a moment to block out the noise of other animated guests around you and look past the obvious glitter. You will discover a unique hotel showcasing the skills of many very talented artisans, staff that are dedicated to making sure your stay is delightful, and service that is delivered on a human scale. Few people can resist the temptation to return to Al Qasr, myself included.
