Re-emerging following its closure, due to cyclone Nathan, Australia's northernmost island beach resort has undergone an impressive re-invention and once again welcomes those fortunate few to appreciate its natural wonders - both marine and land based. Boasting a new restaurant with open kitchen, stylish bar and extended spa, guests can relax, indulge, savour the freshest Australian seafood, plus explore the 24 powdery-white beaches which the island has to offer. With a year round tropical climate, sublime beaches, inviting lagoon and protected National Park, guests can venture into the flora and fauna with a resident Naturalist, snorkel in the pristine waters, relax with a gourmet beach picnic, or enjoy a dreamy sunset cruise.
With an enviable position on the spectacular Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is a remote and secluded haven with 40 elegant rooms and suites with interiors by acclaimed designers Hecker Guthrie. In addition to being blessed with serene scenery, the resort offers a gym, tennis court and water sports such as catamarans, paddle skis, motorised dinghies and an indulgent spa. Other facilities include a delightful freshwater swimming pool, a library and a boutique. A luxury escape like no other, the surroundings are secluded and tranquil, with no mobile-phone coverage, so guests will feel a million miles from the stresses of modern life, yet there are plenty of activities and amenities for the adventurous traveller. Guests can enjoy an array of complimentary activities including beach picnics, nature trails, tennis and more. The resort is fringed by powder-white beaches and coral reefs, making it the perfect destination for world-class scuba-diving, snorkelling, fishing and extensive wildlife sightings. The unique wilderness is home to Monitor Lizards, Black Flying Fox and Swallowtail Butterflies, plus visitors can enjoy occasional sightings of Green Sea Turtles, Humpback Whales, Manta Rays and numerous migratory birds species. The Island's dedicated Research Centre is an additional attraction for those wishing to learn more about the unique ecotourism.
Please note that from 1 September 2015, a new Environment Management Charge (EMC) has been introduced for The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Guests will be charged up to a maximum of 18 AUD per person, per stay, on check-out from Lizard Island.
