This picture postcard village of traditional wooden houses and wide-roofed hotels is set around the River Lech on a broad valley cradled by ski slopes. Oberlech, in the pastures above, used to be the summer domain of shepherds and their families; the old farm buildings have skilfully developed over the years into a charming traffic-free satellite resort. At 1450 metres the snow conditions are reliable and there is no need to take transport out of the village or long cable-car rides. What’s more, as the number of lift-passes sold, there are never any lift queues even at the busiest times.
