A visit to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the world-famous Eiffel Tower. As the city’s biggest icon, the tower is visible almost everywhere across the city. Construction began in 1887 and was completed in 1889 for the World Exhibition; standing a breath-taking 324 metres off the ground and weighing a colossal 7,300 tonnes. Visitors can ascend the tower in one of two ways – via the lift or via the stairs. The stairway only goes to the second level, but by then you’ll probably appreciate a rest in the second-floor restaurant; Jules Verne which serves typically French, gastronomic cuisine. Alternatively, there is a first-floor restaurant called Altitude 95, which not surprisingly stands ninety-five metres off the ground. Views from the top, as you would expect, are absolutely sublime – as one of the best looking cities in the world, there is no better way to view Paris than from above.
