Not too many years ago South Luangwa National Park suffered from an onslaught of poaching, diminishing the animal population to near wipeout. These days, the park flourishes with wildlife and vegetation since poaching is all but non-existent. Just outside Kalamu Lagoon Camp you'll find lagoons flanked by hippos and birds, predators such as the legendary leopard, lion and wild dog, as well as the Luangwa River which enjoys the highest density of wildlife in the area. The park itself is home to over one-hundred different mammal species, including Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest, neither of which can be found anywhere else on the planet. Enjoy day and night-drives, village excursions and various walking opportunities tracing animal paths on both banks of the river, as well as riverine vegetation and shallow wetlands. Do bear in mind that Tsetse flies abound here, so using a 50% DEET spray is highly recommended.

Children over six years of age are welcome, however only those over twelve years old can go on the nature walks. There are two family rooms available at Kalamu Lagoon Camp.
