Joy's Camp is a decadent oasis in the arid plains of Samburu, comprising ten super-stylish tents overlooking a large, natural spring. The precious water draws all manner of game, from the eternally thrilling elephant and lions, to more rare desert species, such as Beisa Oryx and the endangered Grevy's Zebra. Each tent is a chic, secluded retreat, decorated with vibrant local fabrics and furnished with a private veranda for game-viewing or simply relaxing in your own unspoilt wilderness. Joy's is the only camp permitted to drive within Shaba National Reserve, so guests literally have the entire reserve to themselves; from bush breakfasts at dawn to spectacular sundowners in the rosy glow of dusk.

It's this spirit, so unique yet so obvious, that makes safari excursions with Joy's Camp such a phenomenal experience. Guests enjoy many encounters with animals, especially lions, and this is partly due to Joy's incredible work, decades earlier. Whether you are traversing the barren plains on-board 4x4 Land Rovers or pacing tentatively through thorny bush, Joy's enthusiasm for this land is soon understood, especially as you stand transfixed, watching the events of a lion-hunt unfold.

This camp celebrates the life and work of Joy Adamson, who worked fearlessly with her husband, George Adamson, to raise and rehabilitate abandoned lion cubs. Joy is best-known for writing the world-famous novel, 'Born Free' prior to her much-publicised murder in 1970.  

Location and Transfer

International flight to Nairobi Airport, onward light aircraft transfer to Chaffa Airstrip, followed by a short car transfer to the lodge (4x4 game-drive). NB: Visas are required for Kenya.
