Jongomero Camp is a secluded, ecologically sensitive lodge set amongst a wild and rugged landscape - a tough but extremely satisfying region in which to discover unspoiled natural wilderness, diverse habitats and rarely seen animals. The camp itself is found on the banks of a seasonal sand river, surrounded by lush bushland and a large dwelling pool, popular with hippos. Eight private, slightly elevated, tents with thatched roofs, patio terraces and outdoor showers are unfenced, making visiting animals - in particular, elephants - a regular occurrence.

There are eight luxury tented suites which are generously spaced out, ensuring total seclusion. Each tent has a thatched roof and a private veranda and sits on a raised wooden platform fronting the banks of a sand river.

Jongomero Camp offers twice-daily game-drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers, with just six privileged guests per vehicle. There are daily game walks with an armed Guard and Park Ranger, as well as specialist bird and photography safaris. However, the highlight of a trip to Jongomero Camp has to be the fly-camping. These one or two-day expeditions put guests on ground level with the wild animals, whereby you are effectively taken from the comfort of camp to a raw and unpopulated wilderness - humans no longer define the pecking order here and you instead become guests of the animal kingdom. Walks last between four and six hours per day, while the temporary camps consist of a small but comfortable tent, shower, toilet and small kitchen, where the Chef will prepare three-course dinners under the glow of a billion twinkling stars.

Location and Transfer

3-hour flight from Dar Es Salaam Airport to Jongomero Airstrip, followed by a 10-minute car transfer. NB: Visas are required for Tanzania.
