With its big, bubbly personality, Puerto Rico delivers luxury holidays on the beach and on the sea in a spectacular natural setting! On the island’s north coast, Dorado Beach has long attracted visitors, including the illustrious Rockefeller family, who bought large plots of land. Thanks to Ritz-Carlton Hotels, this precious beachfront haven can now be shared.
Picture long crescents of pale toffee-coloured sands and rugged boulders, fringed with tropical greenery and swaying palms. West Beach is a paradise for mini beachcombers, with shallow tide pools and serene lagoons for snorkelling and swimming – it’s the beach that won Rockefeller’s heart many moons ago. East Beach, meanwhile, is where you come to play, courtesy of a fantastic line-up of watersports and equally fantastic tuition. Catering for every age and stage, an enthusiastic and highly proficient team of instructors will teach you snorkelling, kayaking, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, catamaran sailing and paddleboarding – a great introduction to water-based activities. Those here for kitesurfing will find good winds year round and the choice of flat water in the inner bay or big waves on the outer reef. Surfing is excellent, too, with near-perfect conditions for beginners and also experts keen to polish their techniques.
Of course, there’s nothing to stop others enjoying a little spectator sport and, whether you’re taking a leisurely walk along the beach or sunning yourself on the sands, it’s always fun to watch other people’s antics on the sea.
There’s a great little beach bar next to the watersports centre for tasty Caribbean snacks and drinks, not to mention a chic beach club, bar and grill for steaks, seafood and Asian-inspired dishes paired with magical sunsets.
