Puerto Rico is a super golfing destination, with a good number of top-quality, challenging courses set in blissful surroundings. If your quest is to find and play on some of the world’s best greens, this island sets out to please. Three of the best courses are located at our featured resort, Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve on the north coast, all designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior. The sensational setting and superb layouts have made it a highly desirable PGA choice…
East Course has been remodelled by Trent Jones Junior, who has created a classic golfing gem right by the sea. The eighteen holes are named after the ancient trees scarred from golf balls hitting their bark some sixty years ago. Look out for the legendary fourth hole, a double dogleg rated as a world’s top ten by Jack Nicklaus. Add tropical foliage, vibrant flowerbeds, fruit trees, palms and stunning ocean views and you have a golfer’s dream come true.
Described as the ‘friendliest’ course for golfers, the Pineapple Course features large greens, four holes with wonderful frames of the sea, a testing five-hole run and a terrific par-four eighteenth hole that takes you to the clubhouse terrace. It’s a truly beautiful course and highly rated on the island. More demanding is the other plantation course, known as the Sugarcane Course. Fairways and greens are bigger, bunkers are deeper and a series of rivers and lakes makes for a fabulous backdrop. Excellent facilities are on offer at the multi-million-dollar clubhouse – a great gathering place after playing a round to enjoy delicious food, drinks and convivial chatter.
Excellent greens, well-designed courses and top-notch amenities, all wrapped in spellbinding scenery. What more could a leisure golfer want?
