Grootbos is home to two five-star sanctuaries - Garden  Lodge, ideal for families, and Forest Lodge.  All offer private balconies affording far-reaching views over the milkwood forests. Each suite has a large private wooden deck providing spectacular views of Walker Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and the Overberg Mountain Range.

All rooms are equipped with a television, mini-bar, tea and coffee-making facilities, a safe, binoculars, underfloor heating, heated blankets in the winter, double showers and baths, a fresh fruit basket daily, fireplace and a hairdryer. Secure parking is available and a daily maid service is provided as well as a turndown service during dinner.

Those in need of an adrenalin high can seek a shark experience like no other. Three miles offshore from Gansbaai town, and only five minutes from Grootbos, the Great White Shark hunts for Cape Fur Seals. It's from here that courageous types can go cage-diving and come face-to-face with these giant beasts. In addition, Grootbos is an ideal base in South Africa from where you can go in search of the Marine 'Big Five': Southern Right Whales, Cape Fur Seals, African Penguins, dolphins and the Great White Shark.

Explore the Cape Floral Kingdom on a family eco-adventure by foot, Jeep or horse, with a Guide who will bring it to life, or take a sea safari in search of whales, penguins, seals, dolphins and sharks. You can also plant a tree as part of the resort’s restoration programme, which will be tagged and can be viewed on Google Earth back home. Other inspiring children’s activities include exploring rock pools, bug collecting and football (with children from the local townships, if you wish), all with an emphasis on respecting nature and culture.
