Saint Peter's Bay, Stunning Views
Posted: 01 September 2016
Well, this time we ventured to the north west coast, to the stunning Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort & Residences, which became home for the next seven days....not nearly long enough! We took our grand-daughter, Paige (aged seven) to the holiday destination much talked about by her parents and family from their childhood days – it was like travelling back in time. Being just the three of us (we were taking our share of childcare duties for the long summer break), nanny and granddad had every excuse to indulge in our two favourite things – travel and Paige!
After a smooth flight, we arrived at Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort & Residences and were immediately greeted by the smiling faces of the team, who offered us refreshing cold towels the minute we stepped from the car, before expertly whisking us away to our luxury Residence and providing us with a very welcome glass of bubbles! Checking-in to our stylish apartment took seconds and this was followed by a tour of the three en-suite bedrooms, with separate large baths and walk-in showers, a fully fitted kitchen, laundry room, plus generous lounge with access to a stunning terrace. The large terrace instantly caught my attention as it boasted picture-postcard ocean views, plus an alfresco dining area. Below, the sparkling 160ft free-form pool looked very inviting (accessed by a ‘bikini lift’) and just to finish off, there was a roof terrace complete with a hot tub – again, with dreamy Caribbean Sea views.
Set within four acres of sugar-sand beachfront and landscaped gardens, Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort & Residences offers all the facilities of a world-class luxury hotel - including a fitness centre, full range of salon services, Pilates and yoga studio, children’s club and concierge - which is all great, but the real beauty is the blend of the offering. You have the Gazebo Bar, which is a traditional, outdoor and casually classic Caribbean eating venue that offers a limited, but perfectly adequate, menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with an in-room service. So we had the option to self-cater, order in or dine out - all within the luxuriously comfortable surroundings - either casually dressed or in swimwear, such is the relaxed nature of the place.
The staff at Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort & Residences can only be described as your friends...from day one they make the effort to get to know you and remember what you like and don’t like, your every preference seems to be silently noted. Our granddaughter, Paige, is not a big eater, but she did eat well because the caring the staff would ask what we would like and mean it – not what do you want from the menu – literally, what would you like and if they could, they would source it and make it. Her particular favourite was a wrap on its own with grilled chicken to the side - so that she could make her wrap how she liked it. To follow, it was an ice-cream with a cherry on the top....simple, but effective....child happy and eating everything equals ecstatic grandparents!
The pristine beach is only a stone’s throw from the poolside, and is a protected haven for the Hawksbill and common Green Turtles that lay their eggs on the beach. Not only did we see them coming out of the sea to lay their eggs, but we were treated to them hatching, too, and Paige was even able to let one go into the ocean - all assisted by the dedicated conservation staff, who do such a wonderful job. This tiny baby turtle, named Riley, will be a treasured memory for all of us!
As Paige is not usually a child to spend much time in a kids’ club, we were prepared to take it in turns with playtime in the pool and on beach. However, on day two, Paige met the lovely young lady from the kids’ club and that was it - another friendship was made. Now this was not just supervised play, it was full-on in the water with the kids, playing volleyball, swimming in the sea, building sandcastles, swimming with the turtles, enjoying arts and crafts...you name it, she did it with them and with such a sunny, happy nature.
Another benefit of staying at Saint Peter’s Bay Luxury Resort & Residences is that you can share the superb facilities at the sister resort, Port Ferdinand Luxury Marina & Residences, which is reached by the resort’s speedboat. Simply call the concierge to book a trip, or just pop down to the beach. Located north of historic Speightstown, on the ‘Barbados Riviera’, the sixteen-acre, exclusive residential marina of Port Ferdinand offers a contrast to the laid-back family resort, and is designed around a 120-slip marina, which can accommodate vessels up to 60 feet, and has eighty-three, spacious three-bedroom luxury apartments. With facilities including a fitness centre, golf, kids’ club, gourmet store, plus The Sandbox Tree Spa, guests and visitors alike can participate in a host of watersports attractions, dine alfresco at 13°/59° or relax in the quieter, naturally serene surroundings located the rear of the property.
After a week staying within stylish surroundings, enjoying warm and friendly hospitality, Barbados remains a firm family favourite. The tropical scenery, endless beaches, year-round climate, rich island heritage and friendly locals create a cocktail of endless Caribbean charm – one which we fall for, every time! So, next year, we hope to return to the ocean clifftops to feel the northeast tradewinds and savour a rum punch or two!
