Food & Beverage+

With a fantastic full-board offering, including all meals and accompanying drinks, dining on an Avalon River Cruise offers an array of options and flavours, giving guests the freedom to choose a dining option that suits them best. All cruises begin with a celebratory welcome of sparkling wine with canapés, followed by a sumptuous five-course dinner. Throughout your journey, there are a number of options for where and when you chose sit down for meals. Early riser breakfast starts at six o’clock, with freshly brewed tea and coffee with a selection of pastries and finger foods, before the buffet is served at seven o’clock, with an additional choice of cold cuts and cheeses along with eggs, sausage and bacon in the morning sun. For late risers, tea, coffee and a further selection of pastries are available until half past nine.

On European cruises, a lunch buffet is served at mid-day, in which you might choose to partake al fresco, at the Sky Bistro, or in the charming Panorama Bistro. Afternoon Tea is served in the lounge or on the deck with plates full of tempting cakes and biscuits, before an elegant sit-down meal is served in a single sitting in the evening. On Asian cruises, lunch features an exciting live cooking station, showcasing skilfully crafted local specialities served by the head chef, while a four-course á la carte dinner awaits in the evening, featuring a choice of delectable salads, soups, entrées and desserts.

To complete your culinary experience, a local chef is invited on board every cruise to prepare a special dinner, offering a signature dish prepared with fresh local ingredients, and paired with complimentary regional wines. Journeys along the Mekong River will also have the opportunity to stop on land and participate in a hands-on cooking class, with lessons in preparing popular Vietnamese dishes, while a cruise on the Irrawaddy River will include a welcome dinner at one of Yangon’s finest restaurants.

Dutch Waterways Discover the charms of Holland and Belgium, and explore the fascinating canals of Amsterdam before sailing through Rotterdam harbour and visiting the stunning Keukenhof Gardens. Enjoy a guided walk and windmill visit in the quintessential Dutch town of Kinderdijk, see the Delta Works of Veere, St Baaf’s Cathedral at Ghent and disembark in Antwerp, Belgium’s second largest city. Alternatively, take an itinerary that covers the beautiful scenic landscape of the rural countryside, and see the famous blooming tulip fields.

Rhone Combine the beautiful region of southern France, where days will be spent tasting cheese and wine, exploring the gastronomy of Lyon and discovering medieval ruins and ancient towns, with the legendary Rhine. From Amsterdam, cruise through Cologne, the stunning Rhine Gorge, and stop off at the mystical Black Forest and picturesque Basel for transferring to Tournus, venturing down the Rhone to the Côte d’Azur.

Rhine Beginning in Basel, journey up the Rhine to discover the Gothic cathedral and Petit France region of Strasbourg, the imposing castle ruins of Heidelberg and the wine market of Mainz. Pass through the stunning Rhine Gorge, where fairytale castles perch along the banks and into the city of cologne before disembarking in delightful Amsterdam.

Moselle Enrich your itinerary down the Rhine with a detour into the beautiful Moselle. Starting in Amsterdam, spot windmills and take a guided walk through the picturesque scenery of Koblenz before reaching Trier, Germany’s oldest city. Take an excursion out to Luxembourg City before enjoying the charming half-timbered town of Bernkastel, and venturing back to the Rhine via the Rhine Gorge. Continue through Mainz, Strasbourg and Breisach before disembarking in Basel.

Danube Make the most of the Danube with a grand voyage across Europe. Begin in beautiful Budapest, and see fellow breathtaking capital cities, Bratislava and Vienna before being immersed in the peaceful wine region of Wachau Valley in Austria. Enter Germany through Passau and take in the ‘Sound of Music’ sights, and head onwards to taste beer in Regensburg and marvel at the wonderfully restored Nuremberg. Head through Bavaria along the Main River and through the Rhine Gorge before reaching Amsterdam.


Asian Itineraries

Mekong River Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City and spend the day taking a walking tour of the city’s landmarks before a celebratory welcome dinner. After embarking your cruise the next day, you will cruise along the intriguing waterway and see Cai Be and see how rice paper, rice wine and traditional candy is made, visit a local fish farm at the Cambodian border, witness the beauty of stunning pagodas, visit sombre museums, partake in traditional water blessings and take an ox-cart ride trhough the countryside. Your journey will finish in Siem Reap, where you will see a Asapara dance performance.

Irrawaddy River Fly into Yangon for a walking tour of the city’s landmarks and a welcome dinner before transferring to Bagan and embarking the ship. The next day, watch the sunrise over mystical temples before moving on the next day to the typical river village of Shwe Pyi Thar. Visit the Kaunghmudaw Pagoda and a silversmith workshop before heading to the fascinating Mandalay. You will then continue on to Yangon, first stopping at the pottery making village of Kyauk Myaung, the monastery at Kya Hnyat, the hilltop pagoda at Tigyang, an elephant camp at Katha, a fisherman’s home at Kyun Daw and the village of Bhamo, which you will explore by trishaw.
