Established by silver miners in 1879, Aspen’s skiing started on a small scale in the 1930’s but since the opening of its first ski lift after the Second World War it hasn’t looked back. Aspen offers a tempting array of skiable terrain covering four mountains; beginners will delight in the choice of slopes on Buttermilk, intermediates can improve their talents on the wide open slopes at Snowmass, Aspen's sister ski resort, whilst advanced skiers generally head to Aspen Mountain – not for the faint-hearted – to stretch their skills to the limit. In addition Aspen Highlands, one of the most popular regions to ski, offers the widest range of levels of slopes in the Aspen Valley.
