Journey Highlights

Providing an enticing blend of vibrant culture, delicious cuisine and stunning scenery, visitors are soon captivated by the gentle grace of the Thai people, along with the strikingly ornate temples which are seemingly scattered across the verdant hillsides. For those travellers keen to experience a richer holiday experience, Thailand is a destination which boasts a diverse wealth of natural attractions. This elegant journey with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts in Thailand, melds the mesmerising mountainous scenery of the north, with an exceptional elephant encounter, and ends with the inviting island beaches of Koh Samui in the south. Whether it is the flavoursome spiced dishes, delicately fragranced spa products, or colourful traditional Thai dancers, a visit to Thailand is a memorable treat for all the senses. Wafts of lemongrass, the sight of the lotus flower and elegant orchids, or the taste of coriander and coconut, will forever take you back to your time spent in the' land of smiles'.

Commence your journey far from the bustle of Bangkok's urban sprawl and stroll along Chiang Mai's leafy boulevards. Dating back to the 1200's, this northern region's 'old city' retains walls and moats from its time as a cultural and religious centre in an era where trade and religion were closely entwined. Home to hundreds of elaborate temples, including the 14th-century Wat Phra Singh and 15th-century Wat Chedi Luang, visitors can explore the historic city before returning to the beautiful Mae Rim Valley, for a three-night stay at Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai overlooking terraced rice fields. Whether exploring the resort's attractive grounds, or embarking on a traditional Thai cooking class, guests will delight in the regional cuisine specialities, such as Tom Yum Goong (spicy soup with shrimp) or Khao Soi Gai (Chiang Mai curry noodle soup with chicken).

Continuing your journey in style, guests will be transferred from Chiang Mai to the remarkable Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai, for a wonderful two-night stay in the scenic and tranquil mountains. The Golden Triangle is an area which overlaps the mountains of three South East Asia countries, namely Myanmar, Laos and Thailand and it affords incredible views over lush jungle, mist-shrouded mountains and rice paddies. Quite apart from staying in the heart of this stunning landscape, the Four Seasons Tented Camp affords guests the unique opportunity to take part in elephant training and trekking - traditional Mahout training. Following a day's elephant training, guests can return to their luxury open-plan tent, reminiscent of 19th-century expedition accommodation, to indulge within a hand-hammered copper bath.

Leaving the beauty of the far north behind, fly south to the boutique island of Koh Samui for some well-earned rest and relaxation at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. Arriving in style, guests are greeted at a hilltop viewing point, where they are welcomed with an impressive 'gong', before being driven to their private pool villa. Nestled within swaying coconut palms, with views across the Gulf of Thailand, this exotic hillside retreat , a former coconut plantation, boasts an extensive forest spa, private beach, heavenly views and divine Thai cuisine. Whether trying Mai Thai Boxing or being pampered in the impressive spa, guests will undoubtedly be impressed by the resort's facilities and impeccable service.

Whilst here, visitors can trek across the province on elephant back and experience a humbling insight into rural living.

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

Completely landlocked, what it lacks in beaches, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai’s quieter neighbour, makes up for in scenery and a laid back ambience. People planning excursions to the more remote corners of the province where remote hill tribes and exotic wildlife can be found, will often base themselves here. The small but delightful city is also close to the golden triangle, the former centre of the world’s opium trade. Whilst the Tented Camp's location is breathtaking alone, the fact that guests can also embark on an incredible wildlife experience only adds to the attraction. Having been introduced to the heart-warming story of the elephants - rescued from logging and tourism - guests are then taken to meet these incredible gentle giants, before being given their traditional mahout outfit to wear. The next two to three hours are spent interacting with the elephants, being advised how to behave, learning basic commands, plus how to mount and dis-mount the elephants correctly. Once assigned your elephant to ride, guests will drive their elephant themselves (forward and back, left and right) and stroll peacefully through the jungle, before finally sliding off the front of the elephant at the water's edge - for a thrilling water finale!

Highlights

Serene and tranquil, this stunning jungle haven, accessed by boat, affords guests the opportunity to participate in elephant mahout training and trekking. Also, owing to the resort's location, guests can take an excursion to an incredible vantage point, where the borders of Laos and Myanmar are visible.

Set in the midst of Thailand’s exotic bamboo jungle, Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle invites each of its guests to participate in a wildlife experience like no other – elephant mahout training and trekking. Having learned the basic commands needed to drive the elephant, guests are then able to practice their new-found skills, roaming the Thai jungle on the back of an elephant. Built on elevated ground, along a hillside trail, freestanding guest tents overlook the Ruak River in Burma, the mountains of Laos or the jungle and Golden Triangle. Spaced out at a comfortable distance from each other, each air-conditioned tent is open-plan in design and boasts hardwood floors, leather and wooden furniture, hand-beaten copper baths and outdoor rain showers, with the addition of private decks boasting their own massage beds.
